About Me
Welcome! I am a doctoral student at the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. My dissertation title is “Charlestown Connects: An Exploration of How an Interagency Collaboration Program Works and Examination of Long-Term Effects.” When all the planets align I will finish this PhD.
I served two terms as an AmeriCorps *VISTA. I studied Social Work at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Psychology and Computer Science at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. I grew up in the town of Cheektowaga.
My research interests are innovative social work practice, technology in social work including the effects of information communications technologies (ICTs) such as the Internet, social media, and mobile technologies, poverty and class, social entrepreneurship, social informatics, socioeconomic development, and community practice. I previously wrote the SW 2.o column exploring these issues for social work students for The New Social Worker Magazine. I’m always interested in exploring new ideas and practices that can help people. I am, however, terrible with answering email, especially while dissertating.
I am currently a Student Assistant at the Boston College Social Work Library and a Specialist at Apple. I recently completed work as a Field Liaison at Wheelock College, a Visiting Lecturer at Salem State College, an adjunct at Boston College, a research assistant to the Charlestown Connects project, “a coordinated program aimed at improving public safety and social services” in Charlestown, Massachusetts, and at the Cash & Counseling Project at the Center for the Study of Home and Community Life.
I serve as a consulting editor for the Information for Practice web site for social workers. I volunteer for the American Cancer Society and serve on their Blogger Advisory Council. I also volunteer for SocialWorkChat.org and moderate the Research in Social Work and Technology in Social Work boards.
